Globe Telecom and MMDA conducts shake drill in BGC

What’s the 1st concern when there is a disaster like a major earthquake? Communications.. without communications… coordinating all the necessary actions to be done would be very hard. And Globe Telecom recently partnered with MMDA to conduct a shake drill for their thousands of employees and actually set up their emergency response team..

“As a telecommunications provider, Globe Telecom is deeply aware of the need to continue building on the organization and the country’s disaster preparedness capabilities. In line with the company’s own sustainability initiatives, we are glad for the chance to continue providing support for MMDA’s efforts in enhancing the country’s resiliency in the event of a major disaster such as a 7.2 earthquake,” Globe Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications Yoly Crisanto said.

What did we see? We saw that they had some very progressive equipment that can be rapidly deployed anywhere.

Mobile Command Center –  where staff and volunteers can rest and actually coordinate all activities

Portable Cell Towers that can be set up in any area in as fast as 15 minutes.

COLT –  portable –  movable data centers

So far.. looks like Globe Telecom is now more prepared in terms of being able to respond to disasters like earthquakes or even major storms like what happened during Yolanda.

Watch the video below to see the set up they had during the drill.

Organized by the Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MMDRRMC), the Metro Manila Shakedrill on July 14 simulates a 7.2 magnitude movement of the West Valley Fault, mainly affecting Metro Manila. An alarm will sound off at 4 pm to signal the start of the drill. MMDA will be doing the mock exercise for four days, from July 14 to July 17 to allow other emergency responders from other regions to come in and participate.  MMDA said the annual holding of the shake drill aims to identify the gaps during the first two drills held in 2015 and 2016.
